Water Canyon is a canyon that has always appealed to me because of the simple fact that I like canyons with water in them. It’s located in the community of Hildale, Utah and it’s a popular hike for the residents there. This is what it looks like at the end of the trail:
But canyoneers never stop at the end of the trail 🙂 We hiked for SO MUCH LONGER, and it was hot! Every now and then we got a glimpse into the canyon, which made me wish I was down there and not still hiking.
The canyon was a ton of fun though, definitely one I’d repeat. It’s easy enough to bring new people on, but it comes with all sorts of little challenges that get the more experienced people excited.
About halfway through the canyon, angry clouds started rolling in.
We weren’t as worried as you may expect, because the canyon is pretty wide and there are tons of escape points. What worried us more than the rain was the lightning. It was pretty much right on top on us. We got ourselves in a tense situation at one rappel where the people on the bottom were stuck in a slotty bit of canyon (flash flood danger) and the people on top were on an exposed ledge (lightning target). Everything was fine, but we were pretty cold by the end.
